NFL Division 2 Round-Up

The NFL Division 2 campaign started as many would have predicted with the so called big teams picking up wins on the first day. Going into the last round of games it’s Meath on top, closely followed by Donegal and Fermanagh. While down the bottom of the table Cork, Tipperary and Clare occupy the bottom three places, all on 3 points.

Round 1

There were wins for the big teams to start off the NFL Division 2 campaign, Donegal, Meath and Kildare all winning comfortably on the day. Fermanagh and Cork however, played out a draw in Brewster Park. Conall Jones stepping up in the 4th minute of injury time to level matters with a mark.The game was very low scoring, finishing Fermanagh 0-8 to Cork’s 1-5. Kildare 0-14 Armagh 1-8

Meath 0-15 Tipperary 1-8

Round 2

The second round threw up two draws with Fermanagh picking up their second draw of the campaign against Tipperary this time. Armagh and Clare also played out a draw at the Athletic Grounds. Donegal kept marching with a win over Meath. Kildare also picked up a big win down in Cork with a goal from midfielder Kevin Feely proving the difference. That game finishing 1-10 to 0-10.

Tipperary 2-5 Fermanagh 2-5

Round 3

This week produced a few surprises with the unbeaten Donegal finally losing away to Tipperary and Fermanagh picking up a win at home to Kildare. Meath won well at home to Armagh and Clare got their first win with a big win over Cork in Ennis. Two goals in the first five minutes for Clare set the tone for the game and there was no coming back from this. Talisman David Tubridy notching up 1-7 throughout to leave the game on a scoreline of 3-13 to 1-10.

Fermanagh 0-8 Kildare 0-6

Tipperary 3-9 Donegal 0-13

Meath 2-13 Armagh 0-13

Round 4

The fourth round and the table is starting to take shape with Meath picking up vital wins, this time over Cork. This loss also leaving Cork stuck to the bottom of the division with only one point. Kildare and Armagh picked up wins over Clare and Tipperary respectively while the big shock came in Donegal. Fermanagh were the visitors and they inflicted another defeat on Donegal, winning by 3 points in the end. Ciaran Corrigan leading them to victory with 4 points all from play. The game finished Donegal 0-10 Fermanagh 0-13.

Cork 1-9 Meath 2-12

Armagh 1-15 Tipperary 0-12

Kilare 1-16 Clare 0-13

Round 5

Cork who were rooted to the bottom of the table finally picked up a win against Tipperary in Thurles, but it looks like too little too late for the rebels. Donegal got back to winning ways by the skin of their teeth beating Armagh by a point. Fermanagh who have impressed this year picked up another valuable win over Clare at home. It is Meath who now top the table as they ground out a win over Kildare in Navan, with an injury time penalty from Barry Dardis putting them top. The game finished up Meath 1-9 Kildare 1-8 on a wet day in Navan.

Donegal 1-9 Armagh 0-11

Fermanagh 0-12 Clare 0-9

Round 6

The big guns all picked up wins in this vital second last round. Donegal had a big win over Cork, Kildare just got by Tipperary. Meath beat Clare in Ennis after the game was pushed back a day due to bad weather, putting them clear at the top of the table going into the last round. Armagh, who have nothing to play for now had a comfortable win over Fermanagh, beating them by 6 points in the end, 1-9 to 0-6

Cork 1-12 Donegal 1-19

Kildare 1-11 Tipperary 2-7

Clare 1-7 Meath 1-12

This action leaves Meath on top of the NFL Division 2 with 10 points, Donegal and Fermanagh both level on 8 points but Donegal have the better score difference. Down the bottom Cork will more than likely be relegated to division 3.  Tipperary or Clare will be joining them as they play each other in the last round, the loser will be relegated.

NFL Division 1 Round-up

The 2019 National Football league exploded into life in the first round with Monaghan providing the shock result after beating reigning All Ireland champions Dublin in Clones. The NFL Division 1 campaign turned out to be quite an unpredictable one with a number of surprise results. Going into the last round of games it is Kerry and Galway who top the group. Cavan and Roscommon are the bottom two. Here we will give an NFL Divison 1 Round-Up.

Round 1

It was the Farney men who provided the first shock of the league. Monaghan 2-13 Dublin 1-13 – This came as a shock to everyone in the GAA world. Dublin were off to a dream start after going 1-2 to no score up after 3 minutes. Super sub Stephen O’Hanlon came off the bench to score a goal on what was his first senior game. This along with the introduction of Conor McManus breathed life into the Monaghan men which spurred them on to victory. Some other results included;

Mayo 1-8 Roscommon 1-7

Kerry 0-11 Tyrone 0-7

Galway 0-13 Cavan 0-11

Round 2

In Round 2 it was Roscommons turn to provide the upset, they done so by beating Monaghan in Hyde Park by 2 points. A last minute penalty from Enda Smith stole it for the rossies. This came after Stephen O’Hanlon was sent off for Monaghan. A shock defeat for Monaghan after beating Dublin last week and a first win for Roscommon. Some other scores from Round 2;

Round 3

Round 3 threw up some excellent games with Galway beating Monaghan and Mayo beating Cavan but the best game of the weekend by far was Kerry and Dublin. With Kerry edging them out by a point in Killarney, sending the Dubs to their second loss of the league already. Stephen O’Brien getting the only goal for the Kingdom while Peter Crowley up from the fullback line pops over the winner.

Monaghan 0-11 Galway 1-9

Round 4

There were win for Dublin, Tyrone in Kerry this week as Cavan also managed to pick up their first win of the league. They beat Roscommon in Breffni Park 3-13 to 0-13. Two goals from in-form corner forward Conor Madden and one from Martin Reilly got the Breffni mens first points up on the board.

Galway 1-10 Kerry 0-14

Round 5

The table started to take shape after this week with wins for Dublin, Tyrone and Kerry. The game of the weekend however was the local rivalry in Connacht between Mayo and Galway. Galway came away from Castlebar with the win on a scoreline of 0-12 to 1-11 with a first half goal from Danny Cummins proving the difference.

Round 6

The second last round of the league saw Kerry lose their unbeaten run and Dublin bet for the third time this campaign. Monaghan also beat Cavan in the local derby which more or less relegates the Breffni men from Division 1. They bet Cavan in Clones on a scoreline of 0-14 to 1-8

Kerry 0-11 Mayo 1-10

Heading in to the last weekend of NFL Division 1 and Kerry and Galway look like they will be battling out the decider while Cavan and Roscommon face the drop.
